Springton Lake 7th grader Kristen Lillie was recently awarded Philadelphia's Student Mummer award representing the String Band Division by the city's Mummers Museum. "The award is made annually to one student from each division: String Bands, Fancy's, Brigades and Comics that marched in the annual New Years Day parade and is in honor of the Museums first president Robert Meimbrese" explained Palma Lucas, the Museum's Executive Director.

The Mummers are a family tradition for Kristen who dances and plays alto sax for the Irish American String Band along with her Dad, brother and sister.

 

 

 

Rip McDonald

 

This New Years day is going to be the 70th consecutive year for Rip McDonald to walk in the Mummers parade.

At age 83, he has seen all the changes, good and bad throughout the years.

Rip still contributes, by teaching music to a new generation of upcoming mummers.

Helping them every year to prepare to walk up the street on New Years day.

Rip, one of the founding five of the IASB, will still stick with the string band, through thick and thin. We are lucky to have him.
