Irish-American String Band's membership include males and females ranging in age from 12 on up to 80! Instruments include banjo, saxophone, bass, drum, cymbals, glockenspiel, fiddle, accordion, and clarinet. Some of our members also play flute, bodhran, guitar, and other instruments which are blended into some performances throughout the year.
Irish-American is one of the 'younger' string bands participating in the annual Philadelphia Mummer Parade. The band formed on St. Patrick's Day in 1998. It is currently the only string band in the area with a female captain!
The Irish-American String Band is currently accepting applications for musicians (saxophones, banjos, violins, accordions, and percussion). Don't play a banjo or sax but would like to learn? Irish-American will help new members in learning. Prior knowledge of reading music a plus as it helps speed up the learning process but not a requirement.
The string band doesn't seek out only musicians or dancers as part of the membership. Non-playing members participating as marshals considered equally important and help round out the band's group.
Sharing laughter and forming friendships while working on improving and the annual Mummers Parade routine; the members meet weekly to not only rehearse but to also enjoy the camaraderie found within the Irish-American String Band.
If you would like to join just drop Irish-American String Band an email or just stop by during one of our rehearsals.
